IRISH-LEG-END I WOULD'NT EXPECT ANYTHING ELSE FROM YOU,  WHY SUPPORT A ENGLISH/BRITISH FOOTBALL CLUB ? .................YOU SHOWED YOUR TRUE COLOURS.......

50,000 Irish men & women served in the British Army in the 2nd World War, 7,000 died. There are Irish soldiers serveing in Iraq & Afganastan today, (The Royal Irish Regiment & The Irish Gaurds). You might want to take out your old history books before you start throwing digs like that again.

I think you will find that the The Royal Irish Regiment and the Irish Guards are mainly from Northern Ireland, and are British. As far as the 2nd World War the South of Ireland declared its "neutrality," although there were a couple of divisions who decided to fight and are pretty much forgotten for their sacrifice.

A good example of this is the minutes silence held at Falkirk which was disgracefully interupted by Celtic fans singing Irish Republican songs.

Re: Where were our poppies ?

No it wasnt a PR stunt as every other team that played yesterday in the Premiership was wearing one.

We shouldnt be even having this discussion, if people dont respect it they should have the choice not to wear one, but then the players should be allowed to wear a poppy sewn in on the shirt also. Do you think anyone would go out on the pitch without one, I doubt it.

    Poor show United.

I noticed that we didnt have poppies sewn into our shirts unlike every other team this weekend that I saw play.

I felt this was a pretty poor show for the reds and maybe a bad omen for us seeing as we lost to Chelsea.

Did I miss them, were they on any other part of the kit ?

i know Sir Alex was wearing one, but i didn't notice any United players wearing one. maybe some did but it got lost in the red of the kit, i don't know. seemed very much a PR stunt by Chelsea though, every player and staff member having one.

    Re: rememberance day

This is my thought on the issue

These shirts are to be specially made with the poppy emblem embroidered into the fabric. I guess this will cost about £40 a shirt as a one off so with 11 players and 2 shirts each that is 22 shirts @ £40 a shirt which is £880 x 20 prem teams = £17,600. Would this not be better donated to the British Legion ?

Would they have wanted the "nanny state" to tell everyone they had to wear a poppy? Surely not, they would have delighted in the freedom they had won us to decide for ourselves.

I don't see United's (and Liverpool's) decision in the same light as you I am afraid because clubs should be entitled to choose their own form of remembrance - either decision is fine by me.

I agree this is the way I feel aswell I am not bothered if the club's shirt has it or not

    Yes

Have you actually stopped to consider that the fact United and Liverpool are not wearing poppies on their shirts is that both teams will be wearing red shirts this weekend so the poppy would not show up anyway?

I absolutely agree i am a season ticker holder and am totally embarrassed by the clubs stance do they think that it does not affect them Old Trafford was bombed in the war and we had to play at Maine Road but apart from that everyone has duty to remember the boys who fought for there country is really is not on
