This is one of the factors why we lack leadership on the pitch. The club captain is a backup player and features mainly in the leage cup and other meaningless games. I don't know why Rooney isn't captain yet, then he could rant the referee with less bookings to his name.

Rooney is still tempermental, a captain needs to be able to have a cool head. Rooney is getting there though.

So you're saying that Keano had a cool head? Stick out tongue

Until the last minutes of my life I will have this club in my heart

We should make Pat the captain. He plays every game, he performs everygame.

When Giggsy plays he is a fitting captain. There are many players all over the pitch who can act as captain even if they do not have the arm band. With experience like Edwin and Rio at the back i dont see it being a problem?

    Re: Who's our Captain?

    Good point.

We do lack leadership. Not suprised lately when the players look around. . . Who is there? Anderson does not talk, Neither does Fabio, Gibson... Berba? Obertan, Valencia. . .

Just my opinion... But, When Rooney gave the ball away, he tracked back and got stuck in. Brown came in with some crunching takles... Apart from that, there just seems to be no character, Valencia, Obertan, Gibson, Carrick, Fabio, Berbatov... All timid players.

It's no doubt we play better when we have Fletcher in the middle of the park. It's not just the fact he is a good footballer, he has the drive and passion which is vital.

    Re: Who's our Captain?

I think once Rio is back fully fit he should be the UTD club captain. Think giving it to Rooney will add evan more pressure and burden on him remebering he is only 24 still. I think it should be taken off neville as he does not play enough games.

Look at Liverpool - they have gerrard who is an inspirational captain for them, chelsea have gerrard in the past weve had bruce, robson, cantona and keane but recently i dont think our captains demand the same drive and expectation on the pitch.

Keane use to be a mirror image of SAF on the pitch and i just dont think we have a player like that at the moment.

I would prob give the club captaincy to someone who is going to play all the big games rather then passing the armband around.

Gary Neville is our club captain, the team captains have been Rooney, Giggs, Evra, Ferdinand and van er Sar and a few more.

    Re: Who's our Captain?

OMG what an easy question which is so difficult to answer.

Usually the captains are in order
    1)neville (hardly plays)
    2)giggs (plays sometimes)
    3)ferdinand
    4)Evra
    5)Rooney

i think they have all been our captain at one stage, although most of them are temporary until Gary Neville returns but i think we need stabilty and need to pick a captian that plays regularly for us not one start in 5 games. Maybe Rooney or ferdinand. But then again ferdidnad hardly has played this season.

It's either Giggs, Neville, Ferdinand. Since Giggs plays regulary he is, THE captain I believe.
