Oh no, don't get me wrong I completely agree, The defensive minded midfielder would be playing alongside Carrick until Carrick starts to wind down, by then I hope Cleverley would be ready to come into the squad, therefore the defensive minded mid would be a short term addition to the squad and a long term Carrick replacement.

I really enjoyed Nani yesterday, solid if unspectacular. He seams to be working *** his consistency, knowing he had a top match in the bag against Reading he saw fit to play this one cool, with great passing, no wild shots from outside the box and good tracking back to help out his full back

It was his 999th CAREER appearance, that is presumably including games in all competitions including international.
I bet he will make his 1000th career appearance against Real Madrid too!
